Workshop Summary:

Are you well versed in basic compliance strategies, but would like to address more complex authorization nuances? Do you desire more discussion about such topics as managing authorization for programs leading to professional licensure or the coordination of SARA implementation at your institution?  If so, the WCET State Authorization Advanced Topics Workshop may be the answer!

WCET-SAN is pleased to bring together experts in the field of state authorization who have special knowledge with professional licensure authorization management and the intricacies of institutional implementation of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).

The workshop will begin with an overview and discussion of professional licensure management:

  • How state authorization and professional licensure intersect.
  • Hands-on research by the attendees, to include:
    • Determination of which professional licensure requirements must be recorded.
    • Ways to document the research.
    • Practice research of professional licensure requirements.
  • Professional licensure requirements that are (or are not) impacted by SARA.

The workshop will segue to SARA implementation which will include:

  • Collection of data – what type and how to collect?
  • Notifications – what is SARA looking for?
  • How institutions are monitored and reviewed by the portal agencies.
  • Misperceptions of SARA.

In a small group setting, the participants will be able to share the particular situations from their institutions. With the help of experts, the participants will then develop strategies to implement at their institutions.

Note that the workshop will begin early morning on June 14 and continue through and include a group dinner.  On June 15 the workshop will again begin in early morning and conclude at approximately 2 pm.  All of you meals will be provided on June 14 and breakfast and lunch will be provided on June 15.

Who Should Attend?

Professionals who manage state authorization, regulations, and federal updates at educational institutions.  This workshop focuses on developing participants who have an understanding of state authorization who can build upon that knowledge to more specifically address more challenging facets of state authorization maintenance through SARA and compliance with professional licensure requirements.

WCET's State Authorization Network (SAN) is based on the philosophy: "Expecting each institution to navigate authorization regulations in every state is highly inefficient. Working cooperatively, institutions can share the burden." See the SAN website for a list of WCET SAN members.
