Have you been following the release of federal guidance and regulations released in 2023 and wonder how the announcements affect institutions serving students participating in interstate activities? If you are new to State Authorization related issues, you may wish to consider taking the SAN U Member Integration 8 week online course, first.  Cohort #1 runs January 16 - March 12, 2024 and is sold out.  However, registration for Cohort #2 will begin in February for the course running April 16 - June 11, 2024.

Advanced Topics Workshop Topics

SAN is pleased to bring together experts in the field of state authorization to discuss and help institutions understand federal guidance and regulations and the impact on state compliance including state institutional approval either individually by state or through reciprocity. We will also address examining applicable statutes and regulations, addressing the new and existing compliance responsibilities, and developing effective messaging at our institutions. 

The workshop will address the following:

  • Development of Federal Oversight (Court Opinions, Statutes, Regulations, & Guidance)
  • Status and Compliance Management of Federal Regulations and Guidance
  • Intersection of Federal Compliance and State Compliance
  • Legal Research and Analysis Tips
  • Engaging Institution Colleagues with Timely Compliance Updates

Workshop Dates

Thursday, March 7, 2024 – Friday, March 8, 2024
In a small group setting, the participants will participate in interactive exercises to obtain direction to create institutions standards for information sharing, collaboration on compliance techniques, and determine a plan of action to share this information with their institutions.

March 7 – 8:00am – 5pm
March 8 – 8:00am – 1:30pm (includes a working lunch)

Who Should Attend?

Professionals who manage state authorization, regulations, and federal updates at educational institutions. This workshop focuses on developing participants who have an understanding of state authorization who can build upon that knowledge to more specifically address more challenging facets of state authorization maintenance in regard to federal and state regulations and related policy requirements and guidance.

Pricing Information:

SAN Member cost is $500 until December 15, 2023, and $650 thereafter. Non-SAN Member cost is $1,000 until December 15, 2023 and $1,300 thereafter. After you register you will be sent an invoice to pay for the workshop.

Workshop Location Information:

The State Authorization Advanced Topics Workshop will be held at The Chicago School (our wonderful colleague) located at 2400 E. Katella Ave., Suite 150; Anaheim, CA 92806  This is a short walk (0.5 mi) from the hotel.  If there are attendees who would like assistance we will provide transportation to and from the workshop location.  There is free parking available at this location.
